Robust test for High Street granite

Maidstone Borough Council will be testing the granite surface for the High Street Improvement Project.

A four by four metre piece of granite will be laid just outside the Town Hall in Bank Street from September 20.

It is expected to be there for at least a month and will give a good impression on the colour palette chosen. During this time it will undergo some intense trials.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Malcolm Greer, said: “The granite will be split into three sections, one in a natural condition and two with two types of surface protection. While it is down we will be getting it as messy and dirty as possible. During this time we will be trialling a series of maintenance checks on it to see how easy it is to clean.”

The aim of the trial is to gauge how easy the granite sets are to clean and potentially replace.

Cllr Greer added: “We are doing a lot of research for this project to ensure we are offering the best possible materials for the public. While the trial is taking place if you have any comments on materials and appearance then get in touch with us, email highstreet@maidstone.gov.uk.”
