Progress
September's Progress
Work to the High Street Public Realm Project started at the
beginning of September.
In the first six weeks a 4-way traffic lights system was introduced
to begin the temporary road widening. Trees, which are affected by
the new layout, have been removed. In particular the trees outside
the Town Hall and the Muggleton Inn pub. New planting is scheduled
for next year.
On September 19 a full road closure was put in
place at Lower High Street to remove existing planters and to put
down a new permanent footpath. Work has also begun on the junction
of High Street and Pudding Lane.
Eurovia has reported that good progress has
been made through September and they are currently ahead of
schedule.
October
At the beginning of October the footpaths at
the bottom end of Middle Row started to be widened; the roads were
starting to be dug up and new kerbs put in and new drainage
channels were established.
On October 15 the Lower High Street Road
closure was lifted.
For the remainder of October the granite
paving will be laid to the bottom of Middle Row, although Eurovia
is still awaiting further information from Statutory Authorities
about modification works required to the existing drainage in the
carriageway. More information on this will follow next month.
On Monday, October 17 the traffic will be
reverted back to a 4-way traffic light system and traffic will be
diverted to the Royal Star Arcade side of the High Street at the
new point where traffic will go down to one lane. This will allow
the other side of the road to be completed.
Footpaths from the bottom of Middle Row to
Mill Street will continue to be dug up. Pedestrians must use Bank
Street as an alternative route.
November
As granite paving on the Town Hall side of
Middle Row nears completion, Phase 2 will begin from Pudding
Lane. Southern Water will also be completing existing drain
repairs at the end of phase 2 opposite the Town Hall.

December
Completion of the Pudding Lane Junction
including the new throttle Point (courtesy crossing).
Northern (Royal Star side) footpath works to
continue towards Week Street.
Construction of the second throttle point
(courtesy crossing) in front of the British Heart foundation
Clothing Shop to begin.
The site will close on December 22 for two
weeks. All areas will be cleared as much as possible and made safe
where necessary.
