The design team
Letts Wheeler Architects are the lead designers for the scheme.
They were selected through a design competition held in 2009,
because of their design approach and previous experience. Letts
Wheeler Architects acted as lead designers on the Market Place
improvement scheme in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
Martin Stockley Associates bring to the team
their engineering know-how and expertise. They have been a key
member of the team from the outset and have a keen interest in
improving public realm design. They played a key role in the design
team responsible for the ambitious and critically acclaimed New
Road scheme in Brighton.
Sutton Vane Associates are the scheme’s
lighting designers. They are responsible for ensuring that the
streets are well lit and rich with interest, through illuminating
features both new and old. Sutton Vane Associates designed the
distinctive and dynamic lighting scheme at the revitalised Town
Square in West Bromwich.
Chris Tipping is the lead artist who will be
responsible for enriching the scheme with his site specific and
historically influenced artworks that he will produce and will form
an integral part to the project. Chris worked within the historic
context of London Road, Southampton to create these distinctively
designed seats.
The project is being jointly funded by
Maidstone Borough Council and Kent County Council.
