“meet you at the monument!”

We want to create a space that the people of Maidstone can be proud of. A space that can be used by anyone to rest and enjoy before continuing on their way. Currently the Queen’s Monument is isolated on a traffic island. As an important landmark within the town, we want to give it pride of place at the heart of the new square. An attractive lighting scheme will complement the proposals. We will be highlighting listed buildings, the Queen’s Monument and other special features along High Street so that the existing character of the street shines through. By moving the bus stops away from the Monument we can create a flexible space that can be used to host fairs, markets, street entertainers, and other outdoor events. Having a rolling programme of events for the space will ensure the High Street is more active and lively.
